Animal Behavior Enterprises was responsible for developing the first dolphin training manuals and the first trained dolphin shows in the United States.

Beginning with Marine Studios in Florida in the 1950s, ABE developed dolphin training methods that are still in use today at marine shows around the world.  ABE trained not only dolphins but also whales, manatees, and related marine mammals.  Documents available at the Archives of the History of Psychology in Akron, Ohio, show that the Brelands were the first to develop the first "modern" dolphin act.
